New Year’s Day Bonanza! App Store Booked $240 Million January 1
While many dealt with New Year’s Day hangovers, others — like the folks who commandeer Apple’s App Store — were simply happy.
That’s because the $240 million in customer purchases logged on January 1, 2017 made this day the busiest in the App Store’s history.
App developers probably wanted to pop a champagne cork, as well. They earned $20 billion in 2016 — up 40 percent from 2015.
New Year’s Day capped “a record-breaking holiday season and a year of unprecedented developer earnings and breakout app hits,” reports Apple. “In 2016 alone, developers earned over $20 billion. Since the App Store launched in 2008, developers have earned over $60 billion, creating amazing app experiences for App Store customers across iPhone, iPad, Apple Watch, Apple TV and Mac. Those efforts helped kick off 2017 with a remarkable start.”
