On Tuesday, a wild rumor popped up just as quickly as it was shot down.
So why are we still reporting it? As it turns out, some aren’t convinced that there’s substantial reason to discount the buzz just yet.
Here’s the scoop.
We learned yesterday that former White House press secretary Jay Carney is supposedly in the running for the top public relations position at Apple. Following a lengthy but controversial stint in the White House, there’s no doubt that Carney would be up to the task at Apple. But would he even want the job?
Of course, it’s nearly impossible to answer that question without first asking another: Has Apple even expressed interest in Carney? Based on the knowledgeable sources we’ve connected with since the story broke, the answer is pretty clear. Apple hasn’t made any formal offer to Carney, although we can’t confirm or deny talks between the two parties.
Jim Dalrymple of The Loop, however, didn’t leave much room for ambiguity when he addressed this hot rumor yesterday. “Nope,” Dalrymple writes in response to being asked if Carney is likely to turn up at Apple soon. “Tim Cook has never even met Jay Carney.”
