This week, Garmin International Inc. welcomed developers from around the world at company headquarters for the first annual Connect IQ Developer Summit.
The summit is devoted to briefing developers on new features being rolled out in Connect IQ 2.3. Hands-on workshops and breakout sessions with Garmin product managers and engineers also bring developers up to speed.
At the Developer Summit, Garmin is announcing a new integration with the SmartThings home automation app (a free download from the Connect IQ store) that allows users to control things in their home – lights, TVs, etc. – through their Garmin Connect IQ compatible devices.
“Connect IQ, an open developer platform for third-parties to create experiences for compatible Garmin wearables, bike computers, and outdoor handhelds, lets users customize their Garmin device to reflect their unique personalities and needs,” according to an announcement from Garmin.
Since the inception of the Connect IQ platform just over two years ago, there have already been more than 29 million Connect IQ app downloads to the nearly 5 million compatible devices that have shipped around the world.
For decades, Garmin has pioneered new GPS navigation and wireless devices and applications that are designed for people who live an active lifestyle.
Garmin serves five primary business units, including automotive, aviation, fitness, marine, and outdoor recreation.
